Over 50 years of innovation
The North Face® fundamental mission remains unchanged since 1966:
Provide the best gear for our athletes and the modern day explorer, support the preservation of the outdoors, and inspire a global movement of exploration.
Products tested in labs, proven on expeditions, and trusted by athletes. It begins with our world-class athletes. Their suggestions, recommendations and new equipment ideas provide the inspiration and challenges that drive the research and development of advanced materials, innovative design and construction. The most crucial step involves testing both in our laboratories and with our athletes on expeditions around the world.
We believe in sharing our passionFor the outdoors
Our sustainability mission
To protect our outdoor playgrounds and communities through the design and development of environmentally and socially responsible products and business practices.
We conducted life cycle assessments of products in our apparel, footwear and equipment categories, and determined that the majority of our environmental impact comes from fabric processing and product manufacturing. This is where we direct our major focus.
We incorporate recycled materials into The North Face products and take responsibility for our products’ end-of-life through a long-standing commitment to durability and our CLOTHES THE LOOP take-back program. We have also engaged our suppliers in efforts to reduce chemicals, water, energy and waste in their mills, with savings equivalent to removing over 212 tanker trucks of chemicals and over 470 Olympic swimming pools of water since 2010.
Desire to share
Our passion for the outdoors the catalyst behind all we do as a company.
The reason that we work to protect our outdoor areas, reduce and offset our greenhouse gas emissions, and lower the environmental impacts of our facilities. As a co-founder of The Conservation Alliance we have contributed more than $1 million to the organization’s grant fund. Our athletes are empowering students to take action on climate change through Hot Planet/Cool Athletes presentations, and the Explore Fund is helping young people across the country experience and explore the outdoors. At our headquarters in California, more than 100% of our electricity is provided by renewable sources.
